Mat and Sue are long standing members of the Johnton K9 team and owners of the Matsukita Kennel. Having both owned dogs since childhood they are currently the proud owners of three Japanese Akita Inus - Oakie, Teasel and Takara who were, respectively, the first dog and first bitch of their breed to be awarded the Kennel Club Good Citizens Gold Award, a huge achievement. Takara has also achieved her Gold Award, meaning that as of 2014 Johnston K9 has trained 4 of the 5 Akita Inus to achieve this status!
Mat and Sue enjoyed training so much they asked if they could get involved and they have both proved to be huge assets. They have a special knack of inspiring confidence and supporting owners to ensure they succeed.
Mat says "I do like to see the owners confidence grow, especially the young children, to see the change in them, as their confidence grows, and with time and their pride when they pass. We have some great laughs and try to keep it light and fun but safe and serious when we need to, safety is paramount for the dogs and their owners. I find dog training very satisfying, helping people get the best out of their dogs."
